The driver who shot dead and ran over a Quezon City traffic enforcer over a parking violation last week was arrested in Aparri, Cagayan, late Monday night.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) announced yesterday the arrest of Geronimo Iquin Jr. alias “Jhun/Jong,” a mechanic and owner of a calibration shop located on Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay Holy Spirit.
Senior Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, QCPD director, said Iquin, who was caught on closed-circuit television cameras killing traffic enforcer Ernesto Paras, was traced in a hotel in Barangay Macanaya, Aparri, Cagayan.
Joint operatives from the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) and Cubao Police Station, in coordination with local police of Santiago City, Tuguegarao City, and Aparri apprehended Iquin around 11:45 p.m. Monday.
Last September 30, Iquin gunned down the 41-year-old Paras for removing the license plate of the black Honda Civic (ZNH-231) he was driving for a parking violation on Ermin Garcia Street, Barangay Silangan, Cubao, Quezon City.
Not contented, the suspect ran over the hapless victim as he sped off, leaving behind the plate number of the car.
Last Friday, about 10:40 a.m., QCPD operatives found the suspect’s vehicle in front of the house of Iquin’s cousin at Knights of Columbus, Barangay San Roque, Antipolo City. (Vanne Elaine P. Terrazola)
