12:00 noon – Olivarez vs TIP
2 p.m. – San Lorenzo vs Diliman College
Technological Institute of the Philippines tries to bounce back from a crushing defeat while Olivarez College goes for its third straight win when they collide today in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) at the Olivarez Sports Center in Parañaque City.
The TIP Engineers and the Olivarez Sea Lions clash at 12 noon with both teams bracing for an exciting finish as they try to untangle themselves from a share for second to third places with similar 2-1 records.
Owing to their 72-64 win over Diliman College last Monday, the Sea Lions are slightly favored over the Engineers who are still smarting from an 81-65 defeat to Centro Escolar University three days back.
The CEU Scorpions remain as the only unbeaten squad in the tournament organized by UCBL and sponsored by Euro-Med and Lamoiyan Corp. with a 3-0 card.
Expected to carry load for the Sea Lions are Provil Bermudez and Vin Belasco – the same players who hit key baskets in the team’s latest win.
Bermudez boosted his stock in the tournament by scoring 17 points the last time.
Meantime, Colegio de San Lorenzo goes for its first back-to-back wins when it meets Diliman College in a showdown between two Quezon City schools.
The CDSL Griffins ended two straight defeats with a 94-88 win over the Bulacan State University Gold Gears.
CDSL coach Boni Garcia will once again lean on the scoring prowess of Charles Callano and Joseph Gabriel who combined for 41 points the last time.
The UCBL is the latest collegiate-based league to be launched with the goal of reaching out to more schools outside Metro Manila in order to increase its popularity in the countyside.
