Chiang Kai Shek College held Hope Christian High School to just 8 points in the third quarter and romped to a 78-69 win to extend its reign to five years in the 27th Filipino Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF) held recently at the CKSC gym in Manila.
After trailing in the first two quarters, the Goldwin Monteverde-mentored Blue Dragons caught fire in the third frame with Miguel Oczon and Batang Gilas John Galinato leading the team in a mighty 24-8 run to grab the lead for the first time.
Aside from making their shots from afar, the Blue Dragons also threw Hope players out of their comfort zone through their pressure defense that saw them take a 60-49 lead going into the final 10 minutes of play.
Oczon led the Dragons with 15 points to emerge as the Freego Best Player of the Game while Sam Banez and Galinato chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The final day drew a sizable crowd – thanks to the initiative of Edster Sy of Headstart Sports Academy, Tournament Director Sunny Co, Commissioner Willy Chan and FCAAF basketball chairman Daniel Ong.
Meantime, Pace Academy outlasted Philippine Sun Yat Sen High School, 64-62, to capture the Division B title in the tournament sponsored by Freego Jeans, MEC Networks, World Balance and Molten.
Pol Aldrin Antiporda led Pace with 21 points while the 6-foot-5 Shaun Geoffrey Chiu tallied only three points, but came through with two crucial blocks in a performance that drew raves from Athletic Director Wesley Lao.
St. Mary’s Angel College of Valenzuela finished third following a 78-59 win over St. Peter Apostle School.
CKSC also topped the Developmental Division after crushing St. Stephen’s High School, 82-39, thanks to the red-hot shooting of Miguel Jose Dosayla and Johnlen Charles Ang who produced 24 and 23 points, respectively
