Director Oscar Albayalde, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), is set to meet with the Filipino-Chinese community to discuss security issues, particularly on the aspect of kidnap-for-ransom.
This, as President Duterte earlier revealed alleged resurgence of kidnapping-for-ransom activities, including six incidents in Binondo area in Manila, the home of Filipino-Chinese in the country’s capital.
Duterte said the aggressive campaign against illegal drugs has prompted criminal groups to resort to kidnap-for-ransom racket which was the main security problem of the government during the Arroyo administration.
But this early, Albayalde said they have not received any report of the rise of kidnapping based on his coordination with the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG).
“We will check and validate the information although as of now, we have not received any report of alleged kidnapping since the assumption of President Duterte,” said Albayalde.
The official said he also coordinated with the Manila Police District which told him that it has not monitored any kidnapping activity.
Albayalde, however, said that they would do more in the anti-kidnapping drive and another anti-crime operations, especially that President Duterte himself divulged the information.
“We will validate the information of the President and act on it accordingly,” said Albayalde.
“We already have efforts also to talk to the Chinese community on Monday (today),” he added.
KFR activities have been rampant during the Arroyo administration which prompted then President Gloria Arroyo to create a special task force that would run after KFR groups.
The task force, headed by the late retired General Angelo Reyes, was successful in busting a lot of KFR groups.
