Two policemen in President Duterte’s narco list have backed the testimony of suspected top Eastern Visayas drug Lord Kerwin Espinosa that several law enforcers in Eastern Visayas are involved in the illegal drugs trade.
Chief Supt. Leo Angelo Leuterio, deputy inspector general of the Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service, said the two policemen who are now under custody gave affidavits that are identical to Espinosa’s.
“The story that they have been telling us in our record and what we heard from Kerwin Espinosa are corroborative,” said Leuterio.
The statements of the two cops were given before the arrest and the appearance of Espinosa in the Senate investigation in which he identified a number of policemen who received money from him in return for protection.
Among those mentioned were Supt. Marvin Marcos, Supt. Santi Matira, and Chief Insp. Leo Laraga, members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Eastern Visayas who were among those who conducted the operation at the Leyte sub-provincial jail in Baybay City that killed Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Kerwin’s father.
Leuterio said all the policemen named by Kerwin have been recommended for relief and reassignment to Camp Crame, Quezon City. The PNP leadership has issued relief and reassignment orders to them. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
