Police have arrested another suspected bomber who was tagged as among those who tried to detonate an improvised explosive device at Luneta park in Manila.
Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the third suspect was collared outside Metro Manila over the weekend.
He said he could not divulge additional information since the suspect will be presented today by Director General Ronald dela Rosa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The arrest brought to three the number of suspects who were nabbed by the police after being tagged as the ones who left the bomb in front of the US Embassy in Manila, which was allegedly intended to be detonated at Luneta park.
“The operation against the two other remaining suspects is on-going,” said Albayalde.
It was recalled that the first suspect was collared in Caloocan City while the other one was in Bulacan.
Albayalde said they thought the third suspect already fled to Mindanao but they found out later that he was still hiding outside Metro Manila.
Dela Rosa earlier said that the two suspects already went back to Marawi City to reinforce the members of Maute terror group who are currently being attacked by government forces.
The two suspects, he said, were the ones who brought the bomb from Lanao del Sur to Manila on board a Toyota Revo. The vehicle is now under police custody. (Aaron Recuenco)
