As preparations are under way to ensure safe and successful Miss Universe pageant, President Duterte is being eyed as one of the judges during the coronation night in Manila next month.
Tourism Undersecretary Katherine de Castro said they would like the President to attend the coronation night “to judge it or just even watch it.”
“It’s a rule for Miss Universe Organization not to have a judge from the host country but I think if it’s the President, that’s gonna be another, you know, I think they will make an exception to the rule,” De Castro said in a Palace press briefing. “I think Miss Universe Organization is very much welcome to have him in the show,” she added.
De Castro said the President’s staff has been informed about the planned invitation for Duterte to join the judges’ table. “I think his, his men are aware that we would like him to be part of you know, to judge it or just even to watch it. But he has not yet given us a concrete answer altogether,” she added.
The Philippines will the beauty pageant on January 30 when Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach’s successor will be crowned. At least 90 candidates will vie for the Miss Universe crown. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
