The Liberal Party supports programs of the Duterte government that benefit the people but rejects policies that are inimical to them.
Sen. Francis Pangilinan, acting LP president, yesterday stressed this to clarify the party stand on the apparent anti-LP stance of President Duterte, particularly his claim that the “Yellows” are out to oust him.
The “Yellows” refer to the supporters of the late Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr. and the late President Corazon C. Aquino, parents of former President Aquino.
Duterte had assured Vice President Leni Robredo, designated as LP chairperson, that no one would steal the vice presidency from her.
Pangilinan and Senate President Pro Tempore Franklin M. Drilon, a ranking LP official, vehemently denied that the LP has plans or is planning to oust the President, saying they respect the mandate of the people.
Ousting the President is not a solution to the myriad problems facing the Filipino people, Pangilinan said, adding that yanking an elected official from his post goes against the grain of the Constitution.
The LP, however, does not condone the extra-judicial killings of drug pushers and addicts, he said. (Mario B. Casayuran)
