Police confiscated some P4.5 million worth of fake health care products during a raid conducted at a store and a warehouse of six foreigners and their Filipino counterparts in Manila and Malabon.
Chief Supt. Roel Obusan, director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said the two separate operations in a store in Quiapo and a warehouse in Potrero in Malabon also resulted in the arrest of six Chinese and their Filipino contact.
“The operations were based on the complaint of a law firm representing Unilever about the proliferation of fake items, particularly two of its popular health care products,” said Obusan.
After confirming the report, CIDG operatives sought for a search warrant and eventually raided the areas where the fake items were being stored.
“We were able to confiscate counterfeit Unilever products, especially Dove and Vaseline products with an estimated market value of P4.5 million,” said Obusan.
Obusan said the arrested suspects will be slapped with charges of trademark infringement and violation of Intellectual Property.
The confiscated products, on the other hand, were turned over to the law firm purposely to prevent pilferage or damage. (AARON RECUENCO)
