Game Friday
(OCBC Arena, Singapore)
4 p.m. – Singapore vs Alab PH
Bobby Ray Parks erupted for 41 points to set a new local scoring record as Alab Pilipinas repeated over the Kaohsiung Truth, 93-87, Sunday night in the ASEAN Basketball League at the Olivarez Sports Center in Parañaque City.
Parks was on fire right from the opening tip by hitting nine during a 13-2 start, and continued his hot streak amid repeated rallies by the Raymar Jose-reinforced Truth to give Alab its second straight win after dropping the season opener to the Singapore Slingers two weeks ago.
The former NBA D-Leaguer shot 16-of-20 from the field in 33 minutes of action to break the old local mark of 35 set by Thai-American Fred Goldstein for Hi-Tech Bangkok City in a Valentine’s Day game this year against the lowly Pilipinas MX3 Kings.
He also fell four shy of tying the ABL record of 45 set by Slingers import Justin Howard against the defending champion Westports Malaysia Dragons in November last year.
Korean import Seung Jun Lee added 24 points for Alab, which led from start to finish but several threats from its Taiwanese opponents with Jose being one of the threats.
Jose, who was signed to a one-game deal by Kaohsiung, had 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench before fouling out in his first game since ending his UAAP career with Far Eastern University.
Achie Iñigo, also signed to a one-game contract, added four points, three rebounds and eight assists but the Truth remained winless after four games.
World imports Cedric Oliver and Derek Hall led the way for the Truth with 23 points apiece. Top local player Wesley Hsu, on the other hand, was held to just three points after a string of 20-point games.
