Lyceum tries to barge inside the magic four as it takes on Mapua today in the women’s division of the 92nd NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
The Lady Pirates brought down the St. Benilde Lady Blazers, the defending champions, with a shock 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 20-25, 15-10 victory last week to nail their third win in four starts while earning the respect they seek.
“All we want is respect, that’s why we work and play hard,” said LPU coach Emil Lontoc in Filipino.
Cherilyn Sindayen has been leading the way for LPU as she averaged 14 hits an outing while Czarina Pauline Orros and La Rainne Fabay have been contributing well with norms of 10 points apiece.
It will play a Mapua team still in search of a first win after five straight losses.
A win in their 10 a.m. duel will sent it at joint third with Arellano U (4-1) and closer to solo leader San Sebastian (6-0) and No. 2 St. Benilde (5-1).
San Beda (4-2) and Letran (0-5) collide in the other match at 11:30 a.m.
In men’s action, San Beda (5-1) guns for the solo lead as it clashes with Letran (1-4) at 1 p.m. while LPU (2-2) and Mapua (2-3) face off at 8:30 a.m.
