DE La Salle University shooting guard Jeron Teng has said that he feels lucky to have as girlfriend former courtside reporter Jeanine Tsoi who understands and inspires him.
“I think I’m really lucky to have a girlfriend who understands me, not just basketball but kung paano talaga ako.
She’s very supportive of me. She never missed a game also and she’s always there for me to comfort me if I have bad games. She’s always positive. Kahit may bad games ako, sasabihin n’ya ‘OK lang yan, I still believe in you. For sure, next game you’ll bounce back,’” said Teng during an interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” on ABS-CBN.
“She’s the good side of me. Last time kasi she dared me to be on the dean’s list. At first doubtful pa ako sa sarili ko kasi with my schedule in basketball, baka mahirapan pero sabi n’ya ‘kaya mo yan.’ Luckily, nasa dean’s list ako,” Teng also said.
Teng said his family gives all-out support on his basketball career. “They are doing good,” when asked about his family.
“In my five years with La Salle, they never missed a game and they are very supportive of me. During the finals they were all wearing the same shirt ‘yung may mukha ko. That’s how they really support me kaya I get motivation from them. For me, family is constant no matter what happens whether you’re up or down, yung family mo talaga hindi ka iiwanan,” he added.
Teng, 22, admitted there was pressure when he played for the last two games of the DLSU at UAAP.
“It’s a pressure for me because it’s my last year and gusto ko bago ako umalis ng La Salle gusto kong makaiwan ng championship. I think La Salle really changed my life and I owe a lot to them. Parang it’s a way of giving back bago ako mag-graduate,” he said.
“I just wanted to end it already. Ayokong paabutin pa ng Game 3 kasi nakakakaba. I just played my best nung two games and I really gave it all,” Teng added.
On Dec. 7, La Salle swept Ateneo to become UAAP Season 79 champion.
After UAAP, Teng said that he will play for the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Developmental League next year.
“I still have to finish my studies in La Salle. I’m taking up business management. I’m entering the PBA D-Legaue in January. Kasi kailangan kong maglaro doon para maglaro sa PBA,” added Teng.
The PBA D-League is the official minor league basketball organization.
