CEBU CITY – Families staying in evacuation centers have been urged not to return to their houses at the moment because the threat of landslide and flooding still persist due to the continuous downpour in Cebu.
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7 said evacuees, especially those from mountain barangays and living near riverbanks, should stay in evacuation centers as the weather remains bad.
MGB 7 Information Officer Marian Codilla said days of heavy downpour have rendered soil to soften that could trigger landslides. Weather experts said the bad weather will continue to hit Cebu this week.
The MGB 7 also urged local government units to provide safe evacuation centers to ensure the safety of evacuees and to not allow them to go back to their houses.
Evacuees from Sitios Kan-Irag and Kawagan in Barangay Sirao, one of the mountain barangays affected by the landslide, expressed worries that they might not be able to go back to their homes following the landslide. At least 100 families from Barangay Sirao have been evacuated since Saturday. (Mars W. Mosqueda, Jr.)
