7:30 p.m. – Global vs Tampines Rovers
Global seeks a place in the next round of the AFC Champions League preliminary round when it battles Singaporean side Tampines Rovers tonight at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The double winner of the United Football League needs to win against Tampines in the match slated at 7:30 p.m. in hopes of keeping its bid to qualify for Asia’s biggest club competition alive or otherwise be relegated to the AFC Cup.
Should Global come away victorious, it will face Aussie side Brisbane Roar in the second round of the preliminaries.
Azkals striker Misagh Bahadoran and UFL Most Valuable Player Pika Minegishi will lead the attack for Global, which became the first Filipino club to play in the preliminary stage of the Champions League.
Global, which is set to represent Cebu in the newly-formed Philippines Football League, also has Matt Hartmann, Dennis Villanueva, returning Paul Mulders, Amani Aguinaldo, Jerry Barbaso and Serge Kaole on its squad list.
Tampines, runner-up in last year’s Singapore Cup, will be a tough customer as it will be led by Singapore national team members Khairul Amri, Hafiz Rahim and Daniel Bennett.
