As a brilliant lawyer, former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile thinks he can put former President Benigno S. Aquino III behind bars for treason arising from the slaughter of 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25, 2015.
The crime of treason, according to Enrile, could be slapped against Aquino by the government’s prosecutorial agency for aiding and comforting the secessionist Moro Islamic Liberation Front which he said is an enemy of the people of the republic.
The 44 policemen were killed in an MILF-influenced area while trying to enforce a warrant for the arrest of international terrorist Zulfikir bin Hir, alias “Marwan,’’ a Malaysian who had $5-million bounty on his head put up by the United States.
Enrile said he can put Aquino in jail for treason during a press forum at the historic landmark Manila Hotel if he was a lawyer for the government.
“Palagay ko,” Enrile said. “Palagay ko hindi niya masasagot ‘yung tanong ko sa kanya pag naupo sa witness stand,’’ the former Senate President added. (Mario B. Casayuran)
