President Duterte yesterday assured Choi Kyung Jin, widow of slain South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo, that justice will be swiftly served for the death of her husband.
Duterte met Choi Kyung Jin and South Korean Ambassador Kim Jae Shin during a courtesy call in Malacañang yesterday, according to presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella, who said that Duterte also assured the personal safety of Jee Ick Joo’s family.
“The President gave his assurance to the widow of slain South Korean businessman that justice would be swiftly served and that their personal safety would be assured,” Abella said.
The Angeles City, Pampanga Regional Trial Court Branch 58 yesterday granted the motions of SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel to shelve his arraignment and order the transfer of his custody from the Philippine National Police to the National Bureau of Investigation.
The court also ordered the Department of Justice to reinvestigate the Jee Ick Joo kidnap-slay case. It gave the DoJ 60 days from January 30 to conduct the reinvestigation and submit the resolution.
The court rescheduled the arraignment of the suspects in the case already in police custody to April 19.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II and NBI Director Dante Gierran presented Jerry Omlang, one of the suspects in the case, last night.
Omlang surfaced after seeking NBI protective custody from the death threats of Supt. Rafael Dumlao of the PNP-Anti-Illegal Drugs Group.
NBI National Capital Region supervising agent Darwin Lising denied that Omlang is an NBI agent and said that he was only an errand boy also called a “striker.”
Omlang admitted his participation and tagged Dumlao as the mastermind of Jee’s abduction.
