A one year-old boy died while two others were injured when a fire broke out Monday afternoon in a crowded neighborhood in Las Piñas City, leaving 300 families homeless.
SO3 Joel Pascua of the Las Piñas City Bureau of Fire and Protection identified the fatality as Christian Jay Awitin, who was reportedly left inside their burning house at Satima Compound, Fatima Village, Barangay Talon 2, Las Piñas City.
Injured victims Ronaldo Lamanilao,50, and Alvin Castillo, 45, were treated at a nearby hospital of bruises they sustained while helping firefighters in controlling the fire that started at 1:20 p.m.
According to Pascua, the fire started at the house of Joselito Cuaderno where Christine, 26, mother of Christian Jay, is renting a room.
Pascua said the flames immediately spread to about 100 nearby houses made of light materials.
He said the fire reached Task Force Echo alarm before it was contained at about 7:32 p.m.
The Las Piñas City BFP is still conducting investigation to determine the cause of the fire that damaged around R1.8-million property.
The families affected by the fire are temporarily staying in a covered court and a chapel near the area. (Jean Fernando)
