The government is waging an all-out war against New People’s Army (NPA) communist terrorists which have become a huge national security threat, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said yesterday.
Lorenzana said the military offensives will target the “armed component” of the local communist group to stop their lawless acts but will spare the peace loving supporters.
“It is an all-out war kasi they are considered by the President already as terrorists. We also consider them as terrorists,” Lorenzana said in a Palace press briefing.
“Malaking banta sila sa seguridad ng Pilipinas ‘yung New People’s Army,” he said citing the rebel attacks on troops and intimidation and harassment of communities.
The country’s defense chief said the NPA rebels were no different from the Abu Sayyaf group that has has sowed terror and committed atrocities against the people. (Genalyn Kabiling)
