University of the Philippines (UP) and reigning champion La Salle gun for a share of the early lead with National University when they go up against separate winless foes today in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Maroons clash with the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors at 2 p.m. while the Lady Spikers collide with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tigresses in the 4 p.m. main games carrying momentums of opening-day victories.
UP prevailed over Adamson, 25-18, 25-11, 25-18, while La Salle outlasted Far Eastern University, 29-27, 25-22, 25-23.
The deadly triumrivate of Diana Carlos, Kathy Bersola and Issa Molde are set to carry the fight for the Lady Maroons with their relentless attacks, but expect UE to do its best to regain its composure led by Shaya Adorador.
On the other hand, La Salle tries to live up to its billing as the team to beat this season with Joy Baron, Kim Dy and Dawn Macandili teaming up in all departments.
Baron is currently running second as the Best Spiker and third as the Best Blocker, while Macandili is at No. 4 in digs.
In the men’s division, UP seek for joint first place when it tangles with UE in the 8 a.m. opener, while UST and La Salle aim to bounce back from first-game losses when they battle at 10 a.m.
