Gospel Reading: Mk 8:11-13
The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” Then he left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore.
HE LEFT THEM, GOT INTO THE BOAT AGAIN, AND WENT OFF
The Pharisees come to argue with Jesus and ask a sign from him. Finding it useless to enter into discussion with people who are just testing him, Jesus leaves them. He refuses to give in to their demand.
For people who do not believe, no explanation is sufficient. But for people who believe, no explanation is necessary. Thus, Jesus leaves the Pharisees. He does not fall into their trap.
Discernment is important in dealing with people and with situations. We should be able to give the right answers at the right time to the concerned people. For this, we need the Holy Spirit.
Spirit of wisdom and understanding, come to us.
