National University (NU) outclassed Adamson’s persistent plays yesterday to hack out a 25-15, 25-22, 25-19 victory and remain unbeaten in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Bulldogs scored five straight points to win the second set after trailing 22-20 and rose from a 12-9 deficit in the third frame en route to their third straight victory in as many matches.
Six-foot-four Jaja Santiago spearheaded NU with 15 points highlighted by seven aces and three blocks, while Jorelle Singh and Aiko Urdas combined for 11 kills and finished with eight and seven points, respectively.
Jasmine Nabor silently stepped up for the Lady Bulldogs with 29 excellent sets.
Despite the win, NU mentor Roger Gorayeb said his stalwarts underestimated Adamson with its winless standing.
The Lady Falcons are now 0-3 after the match.
“Kaya nag-relax. Kaya rin nahirapan kami sa last two sets,” said Gorayeb.
Skipper Jessica Galanza topscored for Adamson with 10 points, but the Lady Falcons failed to stop Santiago, Singh and Urdas behind the net.
In men’s action, defending champion Ateneo kept its record unscathed at 3-0 with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-19 win over FEU, while last year’s runner-up National University improved to 2-1 with a 24-26, 25-17, 25-23, 18-26 victory over Adamson.
