SURIGAO CITY – The provincial and city disaster risk reduction and management councils have placed the damage by the magnitude-6.7 earthquake that hit Surigao City and Surigao del Norte last Friday night at almost P1 billion.
The PDRRMC said damage to roads and bridges in Surigao del Norte is P201.8 million; school building and facilities, P176.5 million; infrastructure, P194.8 million; provincial government building, P104.3 million; electric power facilities, P7.3 million; water facilities and supply, P2.3 million; and the Caraga Regional Hospital more than P488,000.
The CDRRMC placed the damage to infrastructure in Surigao City at more than P211 million.
The Department of Public Works and Highways placed the damage to national roads and bridges in Surigao del Norte and Surigao City at more than R103 million.
Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas and Surigao City Mayor Ernesto T. Matugas are inspecting infrastructure damaged by the earthquake.
Engineers and workers of the DPWH, along with personnel of the city and provincial governments, are now repairing and clearing damaged roads and bridges in Surigao del Norte and Surigao City.
They, along with private structural engineers, are also helping local government units assess the safety buildings in Surigao del Norte and Surigao City.
DPWH Assistant Secretary Dimas S. Soguilon and DPWH 13 Regional Director Engr. Danilo E. Versola are closely supervising the ongoing rehabilitation and repair of damaged infrastructures as well as actual assessment and validation.
“We’re all moving to restore damaged infrastructures in an effort to return to normal the economic activity here,” Versola said. (Mike U. Crismundo)
