Police have identified two more people who are considered as among the principal suspects in the kidnap-slay of South Korean executive Jee Ick-joo last year.
Senior Supt. Glenn Dumlao, director of the police’s Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), said they are set to include the names of the two suspects whom they recently identified during the preliminary investigation next week.
“There are principal players who linked them into this case. They were not there during the incident, they are very good in hiding their link,” said Dumlao in an interview during the AKG’s anniversary yesterday wherein Senator Panfilo Lacson was the guest of honor and speaker.
“But they are really connected (to the Jee case),” said Dumlao.
The official, however, refused to divulge more details especially when asked if the two more are also policemen.
The Jee case prompted President Duterte to kick the Philippine National Police (PNP) out of the anti-drugs war.
Jee was abducted under the guise of a legitimate anti-drugs operations in October last year. He was killed right inside Camp Crame, with at least four cops from the defunct Anti-Illegal Drugs Group tagged as the key players.
Earlier, PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said they also identified the middleman during the negotiation for the supposed release of Jee who was already dead when the negotiations started.
Dumlao disclosed that the middle-man was also a Korean who served as the adviser of Jee’s wife at the course of the negotiation for the ransom.
“The middleman asked P600,000 from the wife of the victim allegedly to expedite the investigation,” said Dumlao.
“So this middleman became our person of interest in our investigation and we established later the link to the group,” he added.
Dumlao also disclosed that the real motive of the abduction of Jee was really to kill him. This corroborated earlier result of the probe that a Korean hired the group of SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel to do the hit. (Aaron Recuenco)
