8 p.m. – Alab Pilipinas vs Hong Kong
Alab Pilipinas was left helpless against the torrid outside shooting of the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions and fell 100-87 Friday night in the ASEAN Basketball League at the Southorn Stadium in Hong Kong.
The struggles of Alab continued in the Hong Kong district of Wan Chai after allowing the Long Lions to shoot 17 triples, one shy of tying the league record set by the same team several weeks ago, that led to a huge deficit that proved to be too difficult to overcome.
Lee Ki did most of the damage, firing seven threes that nearly tied the ABL mark for local players of eight set by Alab’s Ray Parks Jr. in late-January, helping Hong Kong take a 60-40 halftime lead.
Alab got to within 15 points near the end of the third quarter, but Hong Kong’s American import Marcus Elliott buried a buzzer-beating triple for a 86-58 lead entering the payoff period.
Parks’ 21-point, 10-rebound, six-assist performance and Fil-Am Lawrence Domingo’s 19-point, nine-rebound output were not enough for Alab to absorb its fourth defeat in the last five games.
Alab remains in third place with a 9-8 record, but its hold of the said spot reduced to 1 1/2 games behind the Saigon Heat, who has a 6-9 card and were playing the Westports Malaysia Dragons at presstime.
The Filipino cagers look to regroup today as they face the same Long Lions squad tonight at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna.
