Actor Jake Cuenca was injured yesterday morning after figuring in a bike accident while training for an upcoming triathlon event at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) grounds in Pasay City.
The 29-year-old actor was rushed to The Medical City in Pasig City due to broken bones on the right hand and bruises on the left arm, chin, right knee, and forehead.
Juanto Cuenca, father of the actor, told DZMM in an interview that Jake hit a truck which suddenly stopped in front of him around 7 a.m.
“Si Jake kasi every morning, he trains for Ironman sa may MOA. Biglang nagpreno ang isang malaking truck and he did not have time to break, so tinamaan niya ’yung truck. Dumiretso siya sa ospital. Nasa emergency room siya, nasa trauma,” said Juanto during a radio interview.
Jake has been training for the IronMan 70.3 triathlon event to be held in August. Last Sunday, he joined his first triathlon race in Subic.
“Yung driver niya mismo [ang nagdala sa kanya sa ospital] because there were no ambulances on site. Sa Medical City, that’s where he is now. Meron siyang two broken bones on the hand. He had to have stitches in his chin. They are still continuing with the tests kung ano pa ang damage sa kanya,” Juanto added Jake was already conscious but he was in pain while being treated, his father said.
Jake’s mother, in a statement, said her son has been discharged from the hospital but he is scheduled for surgery on two fractured bones on his right hand.
SPO1 Ronald Pacleb of Pasay Traffic Enforcement Unit said they have yet to receive a copy of the report but he confirmed the accident.
He said they have to identify yet the driver of the truck involved in the accident.
Jake will be seen in the upcoming Kapamilya series “Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin” where he will play the role of a triathlete. He will also appear in another indie film entitled “Requited.”
