NBA: ‘Kentucky Connection’ Could Still Happen in offseason

It has been weeks now since the celebrated NBA trade of DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans though “what ifs” continue to make their rounds. Not too long ago, there was talk of a possible “Kentucky connection” possibly happening and it involved Cousins, John Wall and Eric Bledsoe.

Much of this cropped up November 2016 when Cousins and Wall told the Washington Post that they were contemplating of reuniting. A gathering of the three stars would have been something only that it was improbable due to salary cap restrictions.

The topic seems to have cropped up again with Wall revealing that Cousins considered a move to Washington in an interview with “The Undefeated.”

“I talked to him. He said he would come to D.C., but he didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t know he was going to be traded like that. We thought it was going to be later on or he was just going to stay [in Sacramento]. It shocked me just like it shocked him.”

Right now, that possibility returns to the initial issue involving finances. Before being traded, Cousins was looking to sign a massive deal with the Sacramento Kings. A contract extension was expected but never prospered.

Come the NBA offseason, Cousins future will be in focus once more. If the Pelicans fail to secure “Boogie”, he will test the waters, CBS Sports suggested. That would include the Wizards though it may include crunched numbers to reel in the all-star center.
