Baby Go, producer of award-winning independent films, has said that her BG Productions International, Inc. is ready to go mainstream as she prepares to join the Metro Manila Film Festival later this year.
“For the first time, sasali kami sa maistream dahil sasama na kami sa Metro Manila Film Festival. Hindi muna pwede sabihin ang details,” said Go during an exclusive interview at the sidelines of Mindanao Tapestry fashion show at Marco Polo in Ortigas recently.
“May apat hanggang limang movies kami na naka-plano ngayong 2017. Pinag-pray ko talaga ito. Gagawin pa lang pero ready na. Ang problema na lang sa writer na lang;”
“Ang unang gagawin namin ay ‘yung isang movie na may malaking artista. Ito talaga ang pinaghandaan ko,” said Go.
The lady film executive has wrapped up critically-acclaimed indie films namely “Child Haus,” “Iadya Mo Kami,” “Lihis,” “Mga Isda Sa Tuyong Lupa,” “Laureana,” “Bigkis,” “Sekyu,” “Laut,” “Tupang Ligaw,” “Siphayo,” “Homeless,” and “Area.”
Public relations officer Ana Manansala said that Go believes in making advocacy films with a viable message.
“Her passion for this genre will surely put the Philippines in the international map of film festivals,” said Manansala.
Go, whose first indie film produced was “Lihis,” recalled her first venture in the movie industry.
“Wala talaga akong masyadong alam sa showbiz. Napasok lang ako dito dahil kay Joel Lamangan. Ang akala ko kasi isang movie lang. Hindi ko naman akalain na tuloy-tuloy na kami,” she said.
But Go said that she is looking ahead with movies with big stars.
“Actually s’ya ang lumapit para gumamwa sa BG productions. Sya nag-offer kaya na flatter ako at excited. Hind ko akalain,” said Go who refused to name the big star.
“Itong gagawin namin kay Joel Lamangan pa lang namin pwedeng sabihin. It’s about the environment ang theme nito. Pero may isa pa kaming pelikula na may malaking-malaking artista talagai. Hindi muna pwede sabihin talaga,.” she added.
Go said that she makes it a point to choose popular stars to appear in her movies.
“Hindi ako kumukuha ng hindi sikat dahil ang buhay natin nasa mga artista, sa director. Dapat maganda ang record nila, dapat magagaling umarte ang mga artista,” she said.
Go also said that she does not always agree with Lamangan when it comes to movies, although they are good friends.
“Actually meron si Joel na pinapagawa na movie ‘Tatlong Maria’ pero hindi ko inaprubahan yun dahil menor de edad yung mga bata. Hindi maganda dahil baka masira ang pangalan ng BG Productions lalo na sa mga maliliit na bata. Pinalitan namin yun at ginawa namin yung ‘Siphayo,’ “ she said.
Asked how she met the multi-awarded film director, Go said: “Na-meet ko s’ya sa isang client sa banko. By profession, I’m a housewife and real estate broker and businesswoman hanggang sa nauwi sa showbiz;”
“Yung bank manager namin best of friends talaga sila ni Joel. Yun ang nag-introduce sa amin dahil nangangailangan si Joel ng producer. Dati hindi ko pa naintindihan kung paano yun. So nagusap kami ni Joel at na explain nya sa akin. Sabi ko subukan ko. Tumuloy na kami,” she said.
Go hopes to produce a film for her idol no less than the Star for All Seasons Rep. Vilma Santos.
“Pinapangarap ko si Vilma Santos na sana makagawa sya ng movie sa BG Productions. Mabait s’ya at hindi s’ya mayabang.
Sa mga lalaki wala pa akong napipili. Nagmeet kami first time sa Gawad Tanglaw Awards nuong 2014. Pareho kaming may award nun. Boto talaga ako sa kanya mula nun,” the lady producer said.
