A New People’s Army (NPA) fighter was killed while two soldiers were wounded following an encounter between the rebels and government troops in Barangay Tagbinunga, Mati City, Davao Oriental on Thursday.
Army Captain Rhyan B. Batchar, the Public Affairs Office chief of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division, identified the wounded soldiers as Pfc. Jouie Oliveros and Pfc. Anatoly Lechoncito, who both sustained shrapnel wounds caused by an Improvised Explosive Device which exploded during the encounter.
The wounded soldiers were immediately airlifted to Camp Panacan Station Hospital, Davao City while the body of the NPA rebel was brought to Padilla Funeral in Mati City, for proper disposition.
Meantime four people, including three children, were reportedly hurt following an attack staged by the NPAs in a Civilian Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) detachment in Northern Samar also on Thursday.
Army 1st Lt. Cherry M. Junia, the chief of the 8th Infantry Dvision Public Affairs Office said more or less 150 NPA fighters attacked the detachment which is surrounded by the community of Barangay Geparayan.
As a result, four civilians were hurt and were identified as Genalyn C. Tulin, 31; Jocelyn Tulin, 12; Danica Tulin, 10 and Ruby Jane Tulin, two-years-old. (Francis T. Wakefield)
