La Salle warmed up for its much-awaited showdown with bitter rival Ateneo with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-16 victory over a hapless Adamson side to grab solo lead in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Though it played minus ace spiker Kim Dy, the Lady Spikers proved too hot to handle as they stretched their winning streak in the second round to six games for a league-leading 11-2 record.
The win bodes well for the Lady Spikers as they gear up for their crucial match with the Ateneo Lady Eagles on April 8.
Ateneo, which is toting a 10-2 record, hopes to catch up with La Salle when it tangles with also-ran University of the East today.
The winner in the La Salle-Ateneo showdown next week secures the top seeding in the semis.
Both La Salle and Ateneo are already assured of twice-to-beat privileges owing to their superior records.
Far Eastern University kept its semis bid alive with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 win over National University in the second game.
FEU improved its record to 7-6 – the same win-loss card of its victim.
Meantime, University of the Philippine and University of Santo Tomas part ways today with both teams going for a crucial win.
