ENDURING – A friend who loves classical music is delighted that the Kings and Queens of OPM (Original Pilipino Music) are mounting a concert on April 29 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila. Last year, he thoroughly enjoyed the concert of OPM Queens Imelda Papin, Eva Eugenio, and Claire de la Fuente. Now that they are being joined by OPM Kings Rico J. Puno, Hajji Alejandro, and Marco Sison, he is certain the show will be more fun.
The friend earlier referred to says he’s been a fan of the OPM Kings and Queens from way back, enjoying their songs as much as he enjoys opera and kundiman. Their appeal is enduring because of the songs identified with them.
He cites Rico’s “May Bukas Pa,” Hajji’s “Panakip Butas,” Marco’s “My Love Will See You Through,” Imelda’s “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig,” Eva’s “Tukso,” and Claire’s “Sayang.”
Yes, he remembers the many songs identified with the OPM Kings and Queens.

‘#HUGOT’ – Come to think of it, those OPM songs (either in Tagalog or English) are full of what millennials call “#hugot”—heartbreaks and heartaches. But also hope and confidence.
Rico’s “May Bukas Pa” lifts the hopeless. Hajji’s “Panakip Butas” speaks of being second fiddle in love. Marco’s “My Love Will See You Through” assures a happy ending.
Imelda’s “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig” laments a short-lived romance. Eva’s “Tukso” warns of the pitfalls of temptation. Claire’s “Sayang” is dedicated to those who found love at the wrong time.

ANNA’S MAGIC TOUCH – Concert producer is Ms. Anna Puno of Starmedia, she with the so-called magic touch. All her shows here and abroad are hits. But then Anna knows how to package and promote concerts, with the help of publicist Jun Lalin.
Gerry Matias is musical director, Freddie Santos is stage director, with rising star LA Santos as guest performer.
Tickets to “Kings and Queens of OPM” are now available at Ticketworld, SM Tickets, Resorts World Manila, and Star Media.
