The short-handed Philippine Davis Cup team resumes its bid for a return in the elite Group 1 stage minus three key players when it plays Thailand in the Asia Oceania Zone Group II tie starting today in Bangkok, Thailand.
Without veterans Treat Huey, Ruben Gonzales, and Francis Casey Alcantara, the country’s hopes now fall on the shoulders of top junior player AJ Lim who vowed to give it all despite his disenchantment with the Philippine Tennis Association.
Aside from the absence of Huey, Gonzales and Alcantara – who cited injuries as their reasons for skipping the Bangkok trip – the PH team left the country last Tuesday with only three players after many-time member Johnny Arcilla reportedly declined the invitation.
