War is never worth it regardless of the spoils, President Duterte has declared in pushing for peaceful settlement of conflicts among nations.
Speaking at the 75th commemoration of the Araw ng Kagitingan or Day or Valor in Bataan, the President reminded the international community about the “sacred duty” to promote peace and development following the anguish and suffering endured during the World War 2.
“Paid [for] in blood, the painful lessons of war behoove all of us in the community of nations to work for peace and development,” the President said.
“No matter the spoils, war is never worth it. The reasons of aggression against the occupation of nations should not be countenanced,” he added.
He said the Philippines, after enduring the ravages of the Second World War, has continued to articulate its “principled position that disputes should be settled in a peaceful manner.”
“This is a responsibility of all States – great or small, strong or weak. As responsible members of the international community, this is our sacred duty,” he added. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
