The Philippine Sports Commission is laying down a concrete five-year sports development program aimed at achieving its vision of “making sports accessible to all Filipinos”.
PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez yesterday divulged this following a three-day directional meeting attended by the Executive Board, members of the Management Committee Chiefs, and Heads of Offices of the government sports agency.
“We need to fine-tune how to serve the athletes and coaches, give more focus on athletic development of the different local government units and sustain our plan of putting up a strong grassroots sports program,” said Ramirez.
“In spite of little gaps and cracks, we’re taking these opportunities to keep track of our goals for our athletes and coaches,” he added.
The programs range from improving its operations as an agency, to strengthening the grassroots program and supporting elite and deserving athletes in their international participation.
“We are standing by our commitment to become available for our athletes and coaches,” said Ramirez.
Among the programs lined up are the strengthening of the Philippine National Games, where the upcoming edition is scheduled on Dec. 3 to 9 in Cebu City, and the Batang Pinoy regional tournaments, which will start in July.
