Games Today
(The Arena, San Juan City)
1 p.m. – IEM vs Air Force (men’s)
4 p.m. – Air Force vs Power Smashers (women’s)
6:30 p.m. – Creamline vs Pocari Sweat (women’s)
Struggling Creamline tries to get out of the slump when it takes on streaking Pocari Sweat today in the Premier Volleyball League women’s tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Still nursing a painful 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-13 loss to the Power Smashers two days ago, the Cool Smashers are expected to work double-time in their 6:30 p.m. tussle with the Lady Warriors.
A victory for Creamline would improve its 1-2 card near the bottom standings, but it would not come on a silver platter as Pocari is back on track with a two-game winning streak following back-to-back losses.
Toting identical 2-2 records at second place with the Power Smashers and the Perlas Spikers, the Lady Warriors are upbeat of following up their recent 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 triumph over Perlas to extend their run.
“I guess gumaganda na yung galaw ng mga players. There was a big improvement on our third game and nag-tuluy-tuloy naman,” said Pocari Sweat Coach Rommel Abella.
Abella will continue to rely on open hitters Myla Pablo and Elaine Kasilag to do offensive damage, while libero Melissa Gohing and Kai Nepomuceno are in charge of the team’s floor defense.
Creamline, however, is not intimidated as it still boasts Alyssa Valdez in front of its assault. The former UAAP star of Ateneo currently averages 24 points over their last three games, i ncluding a 27-point performance in their loss to the Power Smashers.
But Valdez couldn’t do it alone as she needs all the reinforcements she could get to beat a tough team like Pocari.
Hoping to provide Valdez support are Cheska Racraquin, Pau Soriano, and Ivy Remulla.
Meanwhile, Power Smashers (2-2) aim to untangle itself from a three-way tie when it clashes with winless Air Force (0-3) at 4 p.m.
