Roberto de Venecia, founder of Top Model of the World Philippines contest, has cited the strength of local beauty pageants, saying that such event enhances the image of the country and the well-being of a Filipina.
“Filipinas now are independent and determined to win. They know that they have that distinction. And I think it’s good for the Philippines because it enhances the image and the well-being of a Filipina,” said De Venecia during an exclusive interview at the pre-pageant of Miss Bikini Philippines/Top Model of the World Philippines 2017 held in Manila.
Asked about the candidate they were looking for, De Venecia said: “Top Model of the World Philippines searches for the appropriate, most deserving candidate who will represent the Philippines in an international competition.”
“She is also multi-functional in a sense that she understands about not only promoting the Philippines but also the cause of Top Model of the World Philippines,” he said.
De Venecia said that TMWP was activated in 2006. It has secured the cooperation of key pageant organizers among the Overseas Filipino Communities from the United States, Europe, and Asia to select deserving delegates to represent the Philippines in international competitions.
“Through arrangements and accreditation processes, the Top Model of the World Philippines have been a direct participant in international competition since 2007,” he said.
Caroline de Venecia, President of TMWP, said that the contest aims to strengthen Filipino communities abroad.
“The initiative intends to fortify the involvement of key event organizers and personalities among the Philippine’ communities overseas where there are large concentration of Filipinos within the US territories, Canada, the Pacific, Southeast Asia, Australia, Germany, and the rest of Europe. This will be a ‘plus’ to the overall initiative,” she said.
De Venecia also said that the motivation of TMWP is to promote closeness among Filipinas worldwide.
“In its desire to further enhance the image of the Filipina as a multi-talented person, it wants to show the world its exceptional character and distinction, a person who will always nurture her roots and diversity, and be proud of it,” she added.
Twenty-five candidates competed in this year’s contest. The grand coronation night of the Top Model of the World Philippines pageant was held at the Resorts World Theater in Pasay City on May 12.
De Venecia said that the winner of the contest will represent the Philippines in its international edition in Egypt later this year. (Robert R. Requintina)
