DASMARIÑAS, Cavite – The no let-up drive against drugs may have led to the death of a barangay chairman who just came from a game of basketball.
53-year-old Elizalde “Toti” Lara, village chief of Barangay Burol Main, succumbed to bullet wounds in the head and body at De La Salle University Medical Center after being shot by an unidentified gunman.
Lara was shot by one of two men while he was walking to his car parked at the side of the basketball covered court at Summerwind IV in Burol Main Saturday night.
The gunman and a companion fled on board a motorcycle without plate after the attack although Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) spokesperson Superintendent Janet L. Arinabo yesterday claimed two suspects, whose names are being withheld at presstime, is now in the custody of authorities.
Lara is said to be a staunch supporter of the government’s firm drive against illegal drugs and is a first cousin of 4th District (Dasmariñas) senior Board Member Teofilo Banda Lara.
Senior Superintendent Arthur Velasco Bisnar, PPO director, said that he created a special investigating task group (SITG) that will look into the incident. (ANTHONY GIRON)
