John Antiporda produced 23 points as Chiang Kai Shek College continued its recovery from a 0-3 start with an 85-83 win over erstwhile unbeaten National University even as Jose Rizal University regained the solo lead in the 10th Freego Cup held over the weekend at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.
The sweet-shooting Antiporda buried three triples to highlight another impressive showing that enabled the Blue Dragons to even their record to 3-3.
John Galinato and JC Luciano backed him up by chipping in 16 and 11 points, respectively to stay in playoff hunt.
Meantime, the JRU Light Bombers rebounded from a stinging 93-90 double overtime loss to the Bullpups last Tuesday with a 90-85 win over the University of the East Junior Warriors in the annual preseason tournament backed by Smart, Powerhouse and Home Depot.
JRU’s win was its fifth in six games, one game ahead of NU and Mapua.
The Red Robins, on the other hand, drew 21and 15 points from Clint Escamis and Brian Lacap, respectively, to beat the University of Santo Tomas Junior Tigers, 81-69.
In the other game, Lyceum improved 2-2 with a 91-73 rout of reining UAAP champion Far Eastern University.
Toby Agustin led the Light Bombers with 14 points – a far cry from his 35-point show in the team’s 93-90 defeat to the Bullpups.
