PROUD ka ba that you can last through the night without sleep, no problem?
Careful ka. Sleep deprivation affects your body in many ways that you may not notice.
According to an article by Ashley Marcin, “10 things that happen to your body when you lose sleep,” here’s how sleep deprivation affects your body:
Did you know that sleep and your immunity system have a reciprocal relationship? Research conducted at the University of Verona showed that losing sleep can hinder your body’s ability to defend itself from illnesses.
According to the European Heart Journal, sleep deprivation can make you more susceptible to stroke or developing coronary heart disease.
Also, your memory, executive control, decision making, reasoning, and problem solving suffers greatly when you skip a night’s sleep. This is according to a study published by the Experimental Brain Research.
You also might be gaining a few pounds after all those late nights. In a study conducted by “Sleep and Breathing”, people, in the study span of three years, who lacked sleep were more likely to gain weight and eventually become obese. While people who had eight or more hours of sleep fared better on the scale.
Besides gaining weight, research showed that people who lack sleep increase the risk of developing adult-onset diabetes.
People need beauty sleep but it isn’t for beauty alone. It’s entirely essential to the well-being of our bodies.
