John Ray Alabanza made two game-saving blocks on Jason Perkins in the dying seconds to give Marinerong Pilipino a stunning 66-65 victory over Cignal yesterday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Alabanza’s consecutive swats on the former La Salle standout despite turnovers by teammates Achie Iñigo and Dave Moralde allowed the Skippers to barge into the win column after two matches this conference.
The 6-foot-5 Alabanza finished with seven rebounds including six points and five rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.
Ex-pro Mark Isip topscored with 15 points, including a jumper with 1:36 left that put the Skippers ahead for good at 64-62. Iñigo had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four assists while Joseph Marata chipped in 11.
Earlier, former Southwestern University star Mac Tallo fired 26 points as Racal Motors crushed Zark’s Burgers, 140-90, to tie idle teams Flying V and Batangas for the share of the lead.
Gwynne Capacio added 23 points and Roider Cabrera scored 17 for the Alibaba, who posted their second victory in as many outings.
Robby Celiz scored a game-high 28 points but the Jawbreakers dropped to 0-3.
