6:45 p.m. – GlobalPort vs Ginebra
San Miguel Beer cruised to an easy 118-93 win over Blackwater yesterday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The Beermen led by 23 points at the half behind import Wendell McKines, June Mar Fajardo and Marcio Lassiter who combined for 56 points.
The Elite dropped to their third straight loss.
McKines finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and five assists while Fajardo scored 18 markers, eight boards, three assists and two steals.
Lassiter shot 5-of-7 shots from the three-point line and finished with 19 points.
The Elite was led by Mike Digregorio who had 18 points.
Meanwhile, unbeaten NLEX tries to extend its win streak to four games for a firm grip of the early lead when it clashes against Phoenix Fuel today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It was only four days back when the Road Warriors defeated the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in double overtime, 122-114, a win that impressed NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao, who used to call the shots for ROS.
“We need to learn how to win games like this,” said Guiao, who moved to NLEX before the season after nearly six years with the E-Painters. “To beat Rain or Shine is a testament of the progress we’ve made.”
NLEX is actually on a five-game run, which includes the two victories the franchise had in their final two games in the previous Commissioner’s Cup.
The game between NLEX and Phoenix is at 4:30 p.m., right after the 6:45 p.m. encounter of GlobalPort and defending champion Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, which dropped its opening game against Meralco, 93-78, exactly a week ago – a rematch of last year’s finals.
GlobalPort, on the other hand, won its previous game with new reinforcement Murphey Holloway when the Batang Pier downed the Fuel Masters, 100-91, last Wednesday.
NLEX import Aaron Fuller collected 33 points and 20 rebounds, while third year guard Kevin Alas added a career-best 24 points, including the game-tying layup that send the game to a second OT.
