Al-Basher Buto, Jerlyn Mae San Diego, and Woman FIDE Master Allaney Jia Doroy won two gold medals each as the Philippines finished third in the recent 13th Asian Schools Chess Championship held in Panjin City, China.
Buto topped both the under-7 Open Rapid and U-7 Open Blitz divisions to spark the country’s seven-gold haul.
San Diego, on the other hand, reigned supreme in the U-13 – blitz and rapid – while Doroy stamped her class in the U-17 – standard and rapid.
Daniel Quizon accounted for the country’s 7th gold by winning U-13 Open Blitz.
Host China emerged overall champion with 10 golds, 7 silvers and bronzes while Uzbelistan finished second with 8-6-4 tally.
The Philippines also brought home 10 silvers and a bronze.
