Retired Philippine Basketball Association player “Captain Marbel” Kenneth Duremdes has embraced a new mission – help build a better image for the Bureau of Customs.
Despite the BoC facing several controversies with the R6.4-billion shabu smuggling incident on top of it, Duremdes said working for the bureau makes him proud.
“Proud ako na sa napakadaming ex-PBA players, e kami ni Marlou ang nabigyan ng chance to do this task,” Duremdes said.
Duremdes was hired as a technical assistant for special activities under the Office of the Commissioner from August 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.
His contract has yet to be renewed pending evaluation, according to Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon.
Duremdes said that amid the many controversies facing the bureau, including hiring of superstar athletes, he is determined to help the bureau as he experienced, first hand, how the public views the BoC.
He said he now performs tasks for the bureau not only as a basketball player who plays in the inter-agency basketball cups.
According to Faeldon, Duremdes is one of the “effective communicators that bridges the communities and the BoC.”
“We feel that ang ginagawa namin dito ay para sa bayan na. We’re not only here to play basketball, tapos na kami diyan e, nagretire na kami,” Duremdes said as he shrugged comments from lawmakers during the House inquiry Wednesday. (Betheena Kae Unite)
