The ridge of high pressure area, an anti-cyclone weather system, will prevail over Luzon and Visayas today, State weather forecasters said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said partly cloudy to cloudy skies except for isolated light to occasional heavy rains, gusty winds, and lightning associated with the thunderstorm activity, particularly in the afternoon or evening, will be experienced over the whole country.
It said light to moderate winds blowing from the southeast to southwest will prevail over Luzon, from the east to southeast over Visayas, and from the south to southeast over Mindanao.
The winds will cause the coastal waters throughout the archipelago to be slight to moderate, it added.
This weather scenario will likely prevail until August 17, PAGASA said.
The chance of isolated thunderstorms will become higher over and Visayas and Mindanao due to the emerging effect of the intertropical convergence zone.
By Friday, there will be a higher chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over Mindanao due to the ITCZ.
So far, PAGASA does not expect the formation of a tropical cyclone that may affect the country throughout the forecast period.
