Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) yesterday served an arrest warrant against Kenneth Dong, the Chinese trader implicated in the alleged shabu shipment from China.
The NBI agents arrested Dong after the Senate blue ribbon committee’s hearing into the P6.4-billion illegal drug shipment.
The Senate’s Office of the Sergeant at arms (OSAA) held Dong, then turned him over to the NBI personnel.
NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin told reporters in an interview they arrested Dong based on a warrant issued by a Parañaque court where a rape complaint has been lodged against him.
Dong is also among those the NBI charged with drug trafficking and violating customs laws.
Earlier, four senators – Risa Hontiveros, Ralph Recto, Juan Miguel Zubiri, and Francis Pangilinan – confirmed they stood as principal sponsors in Dong’s wedding. Sen. Joel Villanueva confirmed Dong contributed funds for his senatorial campaign during the May 2016 elections.
