The Department of Justice (DoJ) rejected yesterday the criminal charges filed against Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. and his wife Susan who were killed during a police operation in their house more than two weeks ago.
Citing the rules on criminal procedures, the DoJ said death extinguishes the criminal liability of a person.
The late Parojinog spouses were charged with violations of Republic act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002, RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and RA 9515 or the Illegal Possession of Explosives.
The complaints were filed by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Northern Mindanao (PNP-CIDG NORMIN).
Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido of the Ozamiz City police said they were implementing a search warrant when they were met with gunfire from the camp of the Parajibogs prompting them to fire back.
Aside from the couple, also killed during the raid were Octavio Parojinog Jr., Mona Parojinog, Jr L. Millanar, Vicente Torregoza, Nestor S. Cabalan, Miguel dela Victoria, Daniel Vasquez, Eldred Requiron, Edwin Teves Rusiana, Carllito Ayaay and Daryl Parojinog.
Espenido said the police confiscated several packs of suspected shabu, firearms and ammunition from the house of Parojinogs.
