KZ Tandingan’s cover version of “Two Less Lonely People In the World” has dislodged Iñigo Pascual’s “Dahil Sa’Yo” as the most popular song in the land, according to Billboard Philippines chart’s latest tally.
Tandingan’s version which was originally done by Air Supply in 1982 is the theme song of the blockbuster movie “Kita Kita” starring Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez whose independent film has already grossed more than P300 million in box-office.
Iñigo’s song spent 10 weeks at the summit since the Billboard Philippines chart debuted in the country this year.
Erickson Raymundo, President of Cornerstone and Spring Films Production, also thanked those who supported the romantic-comedy film.
“300 MILLION na ang Kita Kita! May himala! Totoong may himala! Naramdaman at kitang kita namin ang himala,” said Raymundo on Instagram recently.
“Honestly our faith goal was to make 60-80 Million but if our movie will just hit 30 Million at the box office, we will still be happy.
“From 2 Million gross on our first day to 300 Million on our 3rd week, I dont how how you call it but for me it’s definitely a miracle.
“‘Kita Kita’ is now the highest-grossing independently produced movie in the Philippines. Maraming salamat Kabayan!
Maraming salamat Panginoon,” said Raymundo.
Shot in Sapporo, Japan for R10 million, the movie shot has overtaken “Heneral Luna” as the biggest-earning independent movie in the Philippines.
Raymundo also praised de Rossi and Marquez who are both Cornerstone artists.
“Aside from the overwhelming performance of “Kita Kita” in the box office, I am doubly proud of this film because the two stars, Alessandra and Empoy, are also Cornerstone artists.
“These underrated actors have been around for more than a decade and their time to shine has finally come. Sometimes we just have to be patient because some good things take time,” added Raymundo on IG.
