Global-Cebu and Kaya-Makati remained locked in a share of second place after the two sides battled to a scoreless draw Saturday night in the Philippines Football League at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Goalkeeper Ref Cuaresma dazzled in his first PFL match in the city where he studied in college with key saves that allowed Kaya to split a point with the host team in front of about 4,000 supporters.
Kaya’s Jordan Mintah had a pair of chances to score at least the only goal of the match, but both attempts were ruled offside.
The two clubs improved to 29 points apiece, but failed to gain ground on Meralco-Manila for the lead in the eight-team league competition.
Global and Kaya are seven points behind Meralco, which was playing Ilocos United at presstime at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Spanish striker Rufo Sanchez had a chance to give Global the early lead but his shot from the edge of the box was tipped by Cuaresma. (Jonas Terrado)
