Games Thursday
(Olivarez College gym)
12 noon. — CdSL vs TIP
2 p.m. — CEU vs BulSU
Another unforgiving defensive performance, another easy victory for Colegio de San Lorenzo.
The Griffins put the clamps down on the hapless University of Batangas Brahmans yesterday and cruised to an 89-62 victory – its fourth straight – to stay on top of the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 2 at the Olivarez College gym in Sucat, Parañaque City.
Soulemane Chabi Yo shook off any effects of a sprained left ankle as he came through with yet another all-around performance of 23 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and three blocks while anchoring CdSL’s vaunted defense against a struggling UoB side.
“We’re getting that confidence every time we make a (defensive) stop,” beamed CdSL coach Boni Garcia, satisfied with how the Griffins made life miserable for the Brahmans who turned the ball over 30 times which they turned into 26 big points, most of them off easy layups.
Not to be outdone was defending champion Centro Escolar University, which continued its own roll by defeating Technological Institute of the Philippines 72-52.
Judel Fuentes tallied a game-high 17 points, spiked by five triples, while guard Christian Uri and Congolese center Rod Ebondo added at least 10 points each as the Scorpions easily recovered from a flat start en route to its third straight victory in as many starts.
