The pressure to keep their perfect record in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament mounts each game, but Lyceum coach Topex Robinson and his wards are taking the challenge nicely – and bravely.
Their battle cry of fast and furious in offense and rock-solid on defense will be put to a test anew today when they clash with the University of Perpetual Help Altas at The Arena in San Juan City.
Game time is at 2 p.m. with the Pirates going for a hot start to avoid what they experienced against the Arellano University Chiefs the last time and stretch their winning streak to 13 games.
But it won’t be easy.
For one, the Pirates are hell-bent to get back from a stinging 83-55 setback to the College of St. Benilde Blazers.
Lyceum was able to dodge the bullet for a scary 94-92 win – thanks to the heroics of Jesper Ayaay.
Robinson is convinced his boys have already learned from their past mistakes as they need to beat the Altas in preparation for their all-important match with defending champion San Beda on Oct. 19.
“It’s a wake-up call for us that we have to keep on playing until the final buzzer sounds,” said Robinson on their recent triumph. “I told them na huwag nating hintayin na matalo tayo bago tayo magising.”
“There would come a time na there would always be scary situations like that game against Arellano, but I told them these situations would turn us into a great team,” Robinson added.
CJ Perez, who is averaging 18.1 points, 6.5 blocks, and 3 assists per game, is expected to lead the team anew along with Jaycee Marcelino, Mike Nzeusseu, and Jesper Ayaay.
Ayaay was brilliant in their game against the Chiefs, scoring 13 of his game-high 20 points in the pivotal fourth period.
