Far Eastern University banked on its solid offense as it bested University of the Philippines, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24, 25-14, yesterday to book a semifinal ticket in the men’s division of the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Tamaraws unleashed 58 spikes to outlast the Maroons as Peter Quiel and John Paul Bugaoan led the squad with 13 and 10 hits, respectively.
Both Quiel and Bugaoan fired 15 points each, with Bugaoan also adding his performance with four blocks and one service ace.
Redijohn Paler’s all-around performance also spelled the difference for FEU, finishing with 13 points. He also had eight excellent digs.
The Tamaraws hiked their win-loss tally to 5-1 at second place, trailing behind unbeaten and fellow semifinalist Ateneo Eagles (6-0) with only one assignment left in the eliminations.
UP, meanwhile, dropped to 1-5 to kiss its semis bid goodbye despite John Millete’s 17 points.
Meanwhile, San Beda kept its semis bid alive by blasting College of St. Benilde, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22.
Mark Enciso scored 14 points built on 11 kills and three blocks for the Red Lions, who improved to 2-3 at joint fifth.
Limuel Patenio also delivered 10 points for San Beda, nine from attacks.
St. Benilde skidded to 0-5 to be eliminated in the semis race.
